Parenting Time And Visitation

The time you spend with your child is crucial to maintaining the special bond you share. Our Oakland County parenting time attorneys at Eisenberg & Spilman, PLLC, are here to protect your rights, so that your children have the secure, loving parenting time/visitation arrangement.

What Is Parenting Time?

Parenting time, formerly known as visitation, refers to the court-approved arrangement regarding the time a child spends with his or her parents. In Michigan, it is considered to be in the child’s best interests to spend as much time as possible with both parents.

In a “reasonable” or “liberal” parenting time arrangement, parents work together to create a flexible schedule that does not include specific days and time frames to see their children. It allows parents the freedom that is often needed to adjust schedules according to their children’s needs without having to go back to court to modify their agreements.

Other families are part of a “specific” parenting time arrangement involving specific dates and times that each parent spends with his or her children. If changes need to be made to scheduling in this type of arrangement, a new court order is necessary, absent mutual agreement of the parties.

Over the last three decades, lawyers Laura E. Eisenberg, J.D., and Amy M. Spilman, J.D., have helped parents find the most effective way to resolve their parenting time issues.

As legal professionals and parents, we recognize the importance of establishing a parenting plan that allows you the time you want and need to nurture your loving relationship with your family. Whether you are able to come to a mutual agreement through mediation with your child’s other parent, or you move ahead and litigate, we will be by your side, every step of the way.
