Emily D. Hessenthaler

Biography

Emily D. Hessenthaler is a dedicated associate with a passion for helping families. Prior to joining
Eisenberg & Spilman, Emily began her career at Dickinson Wright PLLC, where she practiced in the firm’s
Corporate (M&A) and Commercial Litigation practice groups.

While in law school, Emily gained valuable judicial experience as an intern for the Honorable Terrence
Berg at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, where she honed her legal research
and writing skills while gaining insight into federal court proceedings. Emily also served as the Notes
Editor of the Detroit Mercy Law Review. Her article published, titled “Promoting Expedited Progress: The
Case for Federal Sexual Assault Kit Tracking Software” was published in the Detroit Mercy Law Review’s
Winter 2021 issue. Emily’s article was inspired by her experience in the Wayne County Prosecutor’s
Office Sexual Assault Kit Unit, which was established to process the thousands of untested rape kits
found in a Detroit warehouse in 2009.

Emily is honored to work with women and families in her family law practice, where she brings both
compassion and advocacy to those navigating complex legal matters.
